Why do I need a dental crown?

Your Oatley area dentist may suggest a dental crown for various reasons. And because we use CEREC same-day crowns, you’ll not have to wait weeks for your restoration. CEREC technology allows us to cut crowns from a single piece of porcelain in our dental clinic.

One of the main reasons dentists suggest dental crowns is to restore structure to a weak or treated tooth, often following root canal therapy. A deeply decayed or broken tooth is another reason we recommend a tooth crown.

A dental crown is a tooth cover customised to look like your natural teeth. When restoring a weak or deeply decayed tooth, the crown acts like a buffer between your bite and the tooth underneath. As a result, a crown may save you from needing a tooth extraction and replacement.

We can also use dental crowns cosmetically to conceal tooth flaws like discolouration, chips and shape abnormalities. And in tooth replacement, a dental crown caps a single dental implant and anchors a bridge of restoring teeth to healthy teeth.
