Here are some of the ways you can support a healthy smile at home.
Brushing your teeth is about more than just running a toothbrush and toothpaste quickly over your teeth. It is really about removing the white, sticky plaque that quickly forms near the gumline.
To achieve this, be sure to angle your toothbrush to 45 degrees and gently brush teeth at the gums, in addition to cleaning the surfaces of all of the teeth. The entire process should take about two minutes (or more) and should be done twice daily.
Flossing your teeth daily is essential to maintaining healthy gums and fresh breath. Think of your floss as a flexible scraper designed to remove plaque and food particles from the teeth. Floss each side of the tooth with a gentle up and down motion. Floss beneath the gumline, but never force the floss; stop when you feel resistance. Flossing should be comfortable when performed on healthy gums.
