Invisalign® and traditional metal and wire braces are fantastic options for straightening crooked teeth, closing smile gaps and correcting misalignment. However, one system may work better for you than the other. We can only determine the best option for you through a comprehensive consultation in our Oatley dental clinic.

How Braces and Invisalign Are Different

Traditional Braces

Braces are metal or ceramic brackets fixed to the teeth. These brackets are threaded with guidewires. You come into our dental clinic every few weeks for wire adjustments. During treatment, there may be food restrictions to not damage the system.

Traditional braces are sometimes recommended for more severe or complex orthodontic cases.

Invisalign in Oatley, NSW

Invisalign is a series of clear tooth aligners fabricated from impressions of your teeth. You wear each aligner in the series according to your dentist’s schedule, and you should keep them in for at least 22 hours per day. You visit the dentist occasionally to ensure the system is working on schedule. However, there are no dietary restrictions because you can remove your aligners to eat and clean your teeth.

Other Orthodontic Options

Myobrace®

Myobrace is a removable appliance for children. It is typically worn for an hour daily and throughout the night. It supports oral development, jaw expansion to accommodate adult teeth and helps curb unhealthy habits like mouth breathing. Some unhealthy habits can negatively impact your child’s oral health. Additionally, Myobrace can negate the need for orthodontics later or mean less time in braces in the future.

Fast braces are strictly cosmetic. They concentrate on the smile line (the teeth that show when you smile), which helps accelerate the straightening process. Typically, it takes about six months in fast braces to enjoy an aligned smile.
