Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry

The relentless advancement of dental technologies and materials of recent time has made it possible to restore any broken down oral condition, to a cosmetically and functionally excellent outcome. Simply, cosmetic dentistry goes hand in hand with restorative dentistry in just about all situations. The timeless maxim of ‘form follows function’ cannot be further from the truth in this delicate blending and balancing of cosmetic and restorative dentistry.

At CFS Dental, we do not necessarily subscribe to the commonly held idea that a perfect smile is one with pearly white, straight teeth brimming from ear to ear, just like a Hollywood superstar. Dr Ng believes strongly that every individual possesses a unique smile, and a good smile is one that is healthy, functional, reflects your individualities, and makes you feel good inside emotionally.

Of course, if you feel there are features in your smile that affects the way you feel about yourself, then we are more than happy to evaluate it and discuss how we can make you feel better.

This holistic approach encompasses a multitude of dental treatments, all with the ultimate goal of restoring and maintaining the function, health, and appearance of your teeth.

‘Caring for the Future of your Smile’ thus becomes the foundation and ethos of what we do best at CFS Dental. We take the concept of cosmetic and restorative dentistry a step further; we make sure the healthy teeth and beautiful smile we restore for you will stand the test of time and last long into the future.

Dental restorations such as fillings, crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers repair or enhance natural teeth. At CFS Dental, we use highly aesthetic tooth-coloured restorations to provide seamless results that look natural. Our tooth-coloured restorations are durable, as we use the finest materials and Australian dental labs, trained under stringent guidelines. Our patients find the restorations we provide are a great value and with the proper care will last for many years to come.

Composite Fillings and Bonding

The advancement of dental adhesive technology in the last two decades has enabled dentistry to evolve and move on from the use of metallic amalgam. Composite materials come in a wide range of shades and translucency which match your natural teeth. Composite can be bonded directly to your tooth structure conservatively and is particularly suitable for small and medium-sized restorations.

Indications for composite fillings include:

  • Filling small gaps between your natural teeth
  • Fillings for small and medium-sized cavities
  • Masking discoloured tooth surfaces, similar to veneers
  • Providing a foundation for dental crowns
  • Replacing amalgam fillings

Composite and Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers are ultra-thin shells of cosmetic dental material that is custom made to cover the front of your teeth, which may be discoloured, maligned, chipped or have gaps.

Depending on your specific needs, Dr Ng and Dr Szeman will assess and discuss with you the choice of the veneering material - either porcelain or composite.

Composite veneers are bonded directly onto your teeth using various coloured composite shade, layer by layer, to mimic the natural structure of your teeth. Special tinting resins are frequently used to ensure the veneer finishes with a chameleon effect for a perfect match.

Dental composite veneers are, therefore, best used for just a few teeth so that they can be masked conservatively and give you a natural smile.

Porcelain veneers are fabricated outside the mouth, either by our ceramic dental laboratories or using our CEREC machine. The finished porcelain veneer is then bonded onto your teeth in one single piece. The inherent strength of porcelain veneers and its high degree of aesthetics allows us to provide a long-term solution to restore your smile.

Dental porcelain veneers are therefore suited in more extensive cases when a comprehensive smile makeover is desired.

Regardless of the choice of your material, dental veneers can be the most efficient way to improve your smile in a short time without going through a lengthy period of orthodontic treatment.
